Epson Perfection V700 Photo Review, Driver and Troubleshooting

Epson Perfection V700 Photo Review

Designed for quality-focused photographers, the Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner looks different from previous models and adds several new features. The first A4 scanner with a dual-lens system, the V700 has a High-Resolution (4800dpi) lens for reflective media and a Super Resolution (6400dpi) lens for movie scanning. Both lenses match an Epson Matrix CCD, similar to those used in former top-of-the-line models.

Linked to the lenses and sensing unit is a high-speed ASIC processor that acquires and processes image data much faster than scanners that rely on a computer's internal processing system. Epson has also polarized the light in the V700 toward blue to reduce the time required to check negatives and slides. You can track check progress with a blue LED that illuminates the centre of the lid, revealing the position of the lens carriage.

4 film holders are supplied, allowing you to scan 24 structures of 35mm strip film, 12 mounted 35mm slides, 2 tool format 120/220 (6 x 20cm) strip films, or two frames of 4 x 5-inch movie at once. Sheets of 8 x 10-inch movie can be scanned utilizing the Film Area Guide on the platen.

The bundled software includes Epson's Check Motorist and Epson Imagination Collection, which includes a File Supervisor for viewing picture thumbnails, categorising and editing pictures, producing slide shows, and making personalized CD/DVD tags. You also get Silverfast SE, a sophisticated scanning application with dirt, scrape, grain, and noise elimination functions, plus colour reconstruction. Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, ABBYY FineReader 6 Sprint Plus optical character recognition software, and Newsoft Presto Biz 4 LE are also supplied, along with an online user guide.

The V700 also features Digital ICE Lite Innovation, which automatically removes surface dust and scratches from scanned photos, although scanning times are roughly 5.5 times longer. In contrast, the dirt elimination setup in Epson Check Professional takes only a few seconds.

Epson TM-T88V POS Receipt Printer

Epson TM-T88V POS Receipt is the sector's leading POS thermal printer. It prints quickly and reliably, is very easy to configure, and supports all leading mobile operating systems, including iOS, Android, and Windows. It offers fast printing up to 300mm/second, best-in-class dependability, numerous ease-of-use functions, twin interfaces, and print options that reduce paper usage by about 30%.

Normal usages and environments:

The TM-T88IV is best suited for high-volume retail locations, restaurant settlement terminals, or areas that need fast printouts in room-temperature setups.

Special Features & Advantages:

Epson receipt printers can also serve as a tool hub, allowing peripherals such as Epson pole screens and cash drawers to plug into the back of the printer for power and the information they need to operate. This removes excess cords that would otherwise need to run to the PC and gives your point-of-sale station a cleaner look.

Typical Features:

The TM-T88IV comes out of the box with a power supply, an A/C line cord, a starter roll of receipt paper, and a chauffeur disc. 3 LEDs on the front indicate power, paper out, or paper feeding. A buzzer is an optional feature that provides a distinct alert for paper-out or cutter jams.

The user interface that links the TM-T88IV to a computer is compatible, enabling very easy updating if a PC is acquired and lacks the proper interfaces.

Performance Testing:

To identify the capabilities of the Epson TM-T88IV, we ran it with a set of tests designed to reveal ease of installation, setup convenience, and print quality. Our tests showed the Epson TM-T88IV is a solid, reliable printer. The model used for the tests was part # C31C636101, which features a USB interface, power supply, and no peripheral hub.

Driver installation is managed through Epson's printer installation utility, rather than the Add Printer Wizard in the Windows Control Panel. This lets the printer connect through an Epson print display port and ensures print information is sent in a way the TM-T88IV understands.

When checking our printer, we ran into issues after switching which port the printer was plugged into, which required us to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers.

Setting up the printer is relatively easy, and everything is contained within the printer vehicle driver itself. Most notably, you can manage reducing design and drawer kick from the driver. This is excellent when working with software that may not have full receipt printer compatibility, such as web-based point-of-sale applications.

Publish rate was quick, at virtually 8" per second for single-shade settings, with speeds diminishing for 2-color settings. Though other printers in its class boast speeds of virtually 10" per second, the difference would only be noticeable on extremely long printouts. The car cutter prints fast and cleanly, leaving a small tag on the left side to link invoices as needed.

The TM-T88V is a true step forward in POS invoice printers, and the results support your budget and the environment. This is most clearly shown in the paper-saving feature. This minimizes waste and cost. Its eco-friendly credentials further support this, as its thermal receipt printer is Energy Star qualified.

The real print rate is an excellent and reliable 300mm per second, and the numerous grey-range options make it possible to better depict logo designs and graphic images. The TM-T88V servsupportseral platforms, so it'sit's easyintegrate righ your network and, it also includes buila t-in USB IF whi,ch indimakes futureration to USB in teasyis is a highly trusted and user friendly POS printer, yet with the passion of the consumer being paramount, we have actually included a 4-year service warranty as requirement.

This product fulfills the rigorous ENERGY STAR ® guidelines established by the European Commission. Epson ET-4760 Review

The Epson EcoTank ET-4760 All-In-One Printer is the frontrunner in the company's most recent line of small-office multifunction printers. Like many EcoTank models, this one delivers extraordinary results at some of the lowest running costs available.

Better yet, it has an attribute set that does not blatantly compromise performance advantages for reduced ink costs. This makes it an Editors' Choice for small and home offices that need to publish or replicate several hundred pages monthly without fretting about consumable rates.

Epson ET-4760 Review
Epson ET-4760 - epson.com

Small and Mighty

Measuring 10.0 by 16.4 by 19.8 inches (HWD) and weighing 15 pounds, the ET-4760 is smaller than most of its straight rivals, including the Canon Pixma G4210, the HP OfficeJet Pro Premier, and the Epson WorkForce ET-4750. Despite its small size, the ET-4760 still manages to cram in a 250-sheet paper cabinet and a 30-sheet auto-duplexing automatic file feeder (ADF).

This version is notably different from past Epson models in that it's off-white rather than the black we're used to seeing from this company. (It's also offered in the standard Epson black.)

Walk-up functions, such as making copies, scanning to or printing from the cloud, sending faxes, and making configuration changes, are managed via the ET-4760's 2.4-inch touch-screen display, which, aside from the Power and Help buttons, serves as the entire control panel.

You may find it especially useful, however, to access certain functions, such as tracking consumables and creating usage records, from the ET-4760's built-in site, a feature offered on almost all printers nowadays.

As pointed out, the ET-4760's paper input capacity consists entirely of a single 250-sheet drawer, with no override or multi-purpose tray. That's the same capability as all the other equipment listed below, except the Pixma G4210, which holds only 100 pages.

Epson rates the ET-4760's maximum monthly task cycle at 5,000 web pages and its recommended monthly print volume at 800 web pages, which is a little bit on the low side for a printer at this cost. The Epson ET-4750 and WorkForce ST-4000 are ranked the same.

Canon doesn't release yield scores for its consumer-grade printers, and the HP Premier's duty cycle is 20,000 web pages higher than these EcoTank AIOs, with an advised monthly volume of 1,500 pages.

Alleviate of Use.

The ET-4760 struggled a bit in these statistics. This is the only choice we tested that doesn't have ink cartridges or toners. Instead, the ET-4760 has replacement ink containers that you pour into the printer's onboard storage tanks.

The procedure isn't messy, yet it is a bit of a task. It then takes the printer 10 minutes to validate that ink has been replaced. This isn't a major criticism, given that you should only have to do this every three years, but it's worth keeping in mind.

We also experienced a jam on our first examination print, which also affected its initial setup rating. To initially set up the printer, you have to print several test web pages and select the best one, which also takes some setup time.

The ET-4760's WiFi setup is uncomplicated, involving downloading software from Epson's website, but it is a little bit longer than the various other printers that we tested. The ET-4760's user interface is easy to use; nonetheless, the printer jams rather quickly.

Cleaning jams isn't awfully hard, yet their frequency makes them a rather big hassle and lowers their overall rating in this classification.

Graphics/Photos.

The ET-4760 does just okay at printing images. While photos have an excellent variety of colors and respectable clarity, we did see occasional striping, and overall, images appear lighter than their originals. There were circumstances in which published images did not look like their originals, despite respectable print quality.

For organization graphics, shades appeared slightly fainter than their on-screen equivalents, and text was understandable, albeit a little fuzzy. The general resolution was sharp, yet it lacked clarity for lighter colors. Ultimately, the color quality was decent yet irregular, with noteworthy, pale pink striping in the top half of some photos.

Eventually, while the ET-4760 can print color pictures, it doesn't stand out at generating them. If photo prints are not a high priority for you, this printer is still a wonderful buy thanks to its gradually reduced operating costs.

Style and attributes.

The layout and design of the Epson EcoTank ET-4760 All-in-One Cartridge-Free Supertank printer are familiar to anyone who has used a home or office all-in-one printer/scanner/fax machine in the last couple of years. There are a couple of features that set it apart from the majority, yet overall it's what you'd expect.

Lifting the top reveals the huge flatbed scanner, which offers high-quality scanning for anything that fits on the bed.

And over that is a flip-out automated document feeder. This permits you to set a stack of papers to be checked in a batch. In my testing, it succeeded with flat, crisp documents; however, it usually failed with double-fed papers that had been wrinkled (like expenses with multiple pages creased from mailing), which caused some pages not to be backed.

The backpack is relatively empty, aside from a huge easy-access compartment for papers, which they did have to use several times during my testing. It is really easy to get rid of, and jammed papers are conveniently accessible and easy to remove. Nonetheless, they had many more jams with conventional printer paper than they had anticipated (3 out of ~200 prints).

They can't remember the last time my previous printer had the same issue with the same paper; I don't believe it happened more than once or twice before. Although the paper jams were easy to fix, it can be bothersome to have to reprint and unjam the paper. All of the paper jams accompanied double-sided printing.

The output tray pulls out and grabs printed records. If you neglect this, they splash out onto the floor/counter.

The paper tray is a single-tray event, yet easily adaptable to a variety of sizes. I evaluated mainly letter-size dimensions (8.5 x 11; printer paper and cardstock) and 4 x 6 photo prints.

The screen's angle can be readjusted or kept flat against the printer. I valued this; bright lights in my workplace create a strong glare on numerous electronics.

Epson ET-5850 Review

The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is an all-in-one printer made to produce 3,000 to 4,000 pages monthly in today's busy tiny and midsize workplaces and workgroups. A letter- and legal-size version of the wide-format Editors' Choice EcoTank Pro ET-16650, the ET-5850's high input capacity, relatively high quantity ratings, exceptional print quality, reduced running costs, and a strong lineup of efficiency and comfort features make it a shoo-in as our existing preferred midrange color AIO printer.

Epson ET-5850 Review

EcoTank Pro: Power- and Productivity-Packed

Presently, Epson has 4 EcoTank Pro offerings, including the ET-16650 discussed above and a somewhat less-endowed (in terms of shade print and copy speeds) wide-format design, the ET-16600. The letter- and legal-size versions are the ET-5850 tested below and the ET-5880, which adds HP Printer Command Language (PCL) and Adobe PostScript page description language (PDL) assistance.

PCL and PostScript are, certainly, the page description languages utilized in numerous typesetting, printing, posting, and graphics layout environments, and PostScript is additionally the native language of Adobe's advanced graphics layout software application, Illustrator, along with the code Adobe Acrobat makes use of to "attract" or define PDF web pages.

If you plan to use your in-house printer for prepress evidence or brief runs of pamphlets and other marketing products, spending the extra $50 for PCL and PostScript emulation is a good idea. Besides, while writing this, I discovered the ET-5880 for sale at Epson's online store and somewhere else for $50 less than the ET-5850.

Other Post: HP OfficeJet 8022 Review

All the same, given its slim construction of 16.7 by 19.7 by 18.1 inches (HWD) and neat 39.2 pounds, the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 packs a lot of wallop into a relatively tiny footprint compared to competing inkjet and midrange color laser AIOs. It's close in dimension, for example, to Brother's MFC-J5945DW, a competing midrange color inkjet AIO, and about 21 pounds lighter than Lexmark's MC2535adwe, a medium-volume color laser AIO that's an additional PCMag leading pick.

If smaller and lighter is what you require, however, you might consider stepping down to a leaner all-in-one, such as HP's OfficeJet Pro 9015, yet another PCMag Editors' Choice. At the same time, it allows you to go back to the ET-5850 and its established features etablished —starting with its 50-page, single-pass, automatic duplexing (ADF) for sending out two-sided, multi-page files to the scanner. "Single-pass" suggests that the ADF releases two sensing units, one for each side of the web page, making it efficient at capturing both sides simultaneously.

The majority of competing versions, including those mentioned here so far, featured auto-duplexing ADFs. Some, such as the OfficeJet Pro 9015 with its 35-sheet feeder, hold fewer originals. In contrast, others, such as the Lexmark I simply stated, included reverse-duplexing ADFs (with simply one sensing unit, so the tool processes one side, then reverses and turns the paper to refine the other).

Reverse-duplexing isn't as fast or efficient as single-pass, yet over time they both finish the job. Regardless, setup, making copies, scanning to network and cloud storage, configuring security options, producing and publishing usage reports, and more are all handled from the ET-5850's spacious 4.3-inch shade touch-screen control panel.

As you can see above, the display screen occupies the entire panel. You likewise obtain, as you do with any business-oriented AIO these days, an onboard server that provides access to all operational and configuration tasks from practically any desktop, laptop, or mobile web browser.

Like the other EcoTank Pro AIOs, the ET-5850's paper capacity is 550 sheets from 3 different sources —2 250-sheet cassettes and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray that lifts up and out from the rear of the equipment, as shown in the picture below.

The HP 9015 holds only 250 sheets from a single input source, as does the Lexmark MC2535adwe, though the latter also has a one-sheet override tray and can be expanded to a total capacity of 1,451 sheets. The Brother MFC-J5945DW holds 600 sheets from three sources, and the Epson WF-C5790 supports 330 sheets (expandable to 830) from two input trays.

Like the other three EcoTank Pros, the ET-5850's maximum month-to-month duty cycle is 66,000 pages, with an advised month-to-month print volume of 3,300 pages — among the highest among the other midrange color AIOs discussed here. The Lexmark, at 85,000 maximum and 8,500 advised, is the greatest, and the OfficeJet Pro 9015, with a 25,000-print duty cycle and 2,500-page advised quantity, is the most affordable.

Epson Ecotank ET-2850 Review

The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 is an all-in-one printer made for small or home offices. It replaces the now-discontinued Epson EcoTank ET-2760 and is similar in layout and efficiency, with one notable difference: it lacks an SD card slot. It has USB and Wi-Fi connectivity, an 8.5 x11 flatbed scanner, and a 100-sheet input tray. It supports paired printing; however, it does not support duplex scanning due to the lack of an automated feeder.

Epson Ecotank ET-2850 Review

Epson Ecotank ET-2850 Review

Appearance Design

The ET-2850 has a compact body. When set up for printing, the device measures 14.8 x 22.3 x 10.2 inches, with the paper assistance and result tray fully extended. Its weight is a little less than 12 pounds. The scanner lid is designed to be lightweight because it lacks an automatic document feeder (ADF) for copying and scanning multiple pages. Furthermore, the lid's joints do not provide sufficient extension to accommodate thicker materials such as books.

Publish Speed

The ET-2850 showed an ordinary rate in our examinations. It took 34.4 seconds to print a five-page text file at 8.7 ppm, a little slower than the 10.1 ppm group standard. Publishing a six-page PDF with text and shaded graphics in 2 minutes and 15 seconds resulted in 2.7 ppm, slightly below the 2.8 ppm average.

Utilizing its duplexer for two-sided prints, it created a 10-page message record on 5 sheets in 1 min and 32 seconds at 6.5 ppm. In contrast, the Canon Pixma G6020, which printed discriminatory text records at 9 ppm, slowed to 2.3 ppm for duplex text prints. The Brother MFC-J4535DW succeeded, accomplishing 10.7 ppm for duplex message printing.

For pages with blended text and shade graphics, the ET-2850 printed a six-page document onto 3 sheets in 2 mins and 29 secs at 2.4 ppm. The Canon G6020 was slightly quicker at 3.2 ppm. The Brother MFC-J4535DW was considerably quicker at 5.8 ppm. When printing high-resolution 8 x 10-inch glossy prints, the ET-2850 was slower at 6 minutes and 7 seconds compared to the Canon G6020 (just under 4 minutes) and the Brother MFC-J4535DW (1 minute and 36 seconds). However, it was much faster when printing the very same image at typical resolution, taking 3 minutes and 32 seconds.

For high-resolution 4 x 6-inch glossy photos, the ET-2850 printed in 3 minutes and 1 second, slower than the classification average of 2 mins and 29 seconds and considerably slower than the Brother MFC-J4525DW, which printed in just 1 min and 8 seconds.

Printing Quality

The ET-2850 continually produced premier images. Text records were sharp and dark. Also, on two-sided prints, any mild modifications in sharpness and shade were barely visible. Color graphics presented all-natural, saturated shades, with fine detail well preserved.

Copies were precise, particularly with the dedicated black-and-white check mode. Photos on glossy paper were lively, though very dark darkness did not retain subtle information. Scans likewise succeeded, capturing fine details and shades properly, also in shadowed locations.

Ink Cost and Yield

The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 benefits family members' usage.

It can produce a wide range of web pages before requiring ink refills, and replacement ink is low-cost. In addition, it includes a flatbed scanner that facilitates scanning of old pictures, artwork, or recipe publication web pages. Although it excels at producing highly detailed, sharp photos, it might fall short in color precision, resulting in published photos that don't exactly match the originals.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 is good for small offices.

It can produce countless web pages before requiring a refill of the storage tank, and the cost of replacing the ink is low. Additionally, it includes a flatbed scanner for easy scanning of old photographs, artwork, or pages from a recipe book. However, while it excels atexcels at producing extremely thorough and crisp images, it may have limitations in color precision, resulting in published images that do not exactly replicate the original hues.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 is excellent for students.

You can create hundreds of pages each week and still enjoy months of ink-long life, making it a superb choice for handling numerous printed essays and records. Outfitted with a flatbed scanner, it's hassle-free to scan book pages and handwritten notes.

Furthermore, it offers cordless printing options, allowing you to connect to the printer or use the mobile app for added convenience. However, the printing speed is on the slower side, so you'll need to be patient when printing longer documents.

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4820DWF Review

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4820DWF Review

Epson's WorkForce Pro line of multifunction (print, copy, scan, and fax) printers includes the WorkForce Pro WF-4820 All-in-One Printer, an entry- to midrange model designed for use in small offices and home offices.

A replacement for 2017's WF-4720, the WF-4820 comes with some significant updates, including a larger touch control panel, faster print speeds, and a higher month-to-month volume rating.

Nevertheless, it faces a crowded field of capable competitors — including its closest sibling, the WF-4830, which boasts double the paper capacity from 2 input sources and a larger, auto-duplexing automated document feeder (ADF).

These beneficial time-saving features come at an unbelievable $20 over the WF-4820's list price. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the WF-4820, yet at anything it can do, the WF-4830 does it far better.

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4820DWF Review
Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4820DWF - epson.com

Small and Sturdy

The WF-4820 is among 5 WorkForce Pro AIOs Epson updated in 2020. In the WorkForce Pro pecking order, it is second from the bottom, an action above the somewhat smaller and lighter WF-3820.

The WF-4820 is 5 web pages per min (ppm) faster than the WF-3820, and its month-to-month quantity score is significantly higher. Then comes the WF-4830, complemented by the wide-format WF-7820 and WF-7840.

Measuring 10.9 by 16.7 by 19.8 inches (HWD) and weighing 22.5 extra pounds, the WF-4820 is an inch taller and 2.4 extra pounds heavier than its WF-4720 precursor, and a pair of inches shorter and around 4 pounds lighter than its WF-4830 sibling, whose added height and girth come from a 2nd paper cassette and a slightly larger ADF with a duplexing device.

The many rivals for the WF-4820 include HP's OfficeJet Pro 9015 (an Editors' Choice winner) and OfficeJet Pro Premier, Canon's Pixma G4210 (a bulk-ink MegaTank device) and Pixma TR8620, Brother's MFC-J5845DW, and the Editors' Choice-winning Epson WF-C5790 (also a bulk-ink AIO).

Some of these are larger and more expensive to obtain, but comparability is about determining which devices offer similar features while delivering the best overall value. A $400 bulk-ink printer, for instance, often provides much better value in the long run than a $150 maker that uses extra conventional ink cartridges.

The majority of these need similar workdesk space and evaluate about the same as the WF-4820. Providing better capacity and volume at a higher acquisition cost, the Brother MFC-J5845DW and the Epson WF-C5790 are dramatically larger and heftier: 38.6 and 41.2 pounds, respectively.

The WF-4820's built-in scanner is fed by a 35-page manual-duplex ADF. If you're checking a pile of two-sided pages, you'll need to wait for one side to be scanned, then turn the stack over so the maker can review the opposite side. The WF-4830, on the other hand, includes a 50-sheet auto-duplexing ADF that scans both sides of two-sided web pages on its own while you're off fetching coffee.

Other Post: Canon PIXMA TR150 Review

Of the various other printers pointed out here, both OfficeJet Pro AIOs include auto-duplexing 35-sheet document feeders, and Epson's WF-C5790 includes a 50-page single-pass auto-duplexing ADF, meaning it has 2 sensors, one for each side of the page, allowing it to check both sides at the same time. The rest are manual-duplexing.

Paper handling on the WF-4820 includes one 250-sheet cassette that you can set up to hold up to 50 sheets of cost-effective photo paper or 10 #10 envelopes. The WF-4830 has a significant advantage: two 250-sheet cassettes you can load with your daily paper or use for other media, such as firm letterhead or photo paper. This enhanced capability and versatility can greatly increase the time between journeys to refill or transform the paper.

The majority of the competing equipment has only one paper drawer. Yet, the Epson WF-C5790 and Brother MFC-J5845DW have 250-sheet paper cassettes plus 80- and 100-sheet multi-purpose trays, respectively, for printing envelopes, tags, or images without opening or reconfiguring the main paper cabinet and disrupting everyone else's process.

Canon's TR8620 also has 2 paper resources: a 100-sheet cassette in advance and a 100-sheet tray that pulls out from the back of the framework. The G4210's single paper cabinet holds only a meager 100 sheets. Both HP OfficeJets have single 250-sheet cassettes.

For both the WF-4820 and the WF-4830, the maximum month-to-month responsibility cycle is 33,000 pages with a 1,600-page advised monthly web page volume. Both OfficeJets come with maximum task cycles and advised page quantities of 25,000 and 1,500 prints.

Epson's WF-C5790 has a task cycle of 45,000 web pages per month, and its suggested print volume is 2,500, which is higher than that of the WF-4820. The MFC-J5845DW's rankings are comparable to those of the WF-4820. Canon no longer releases these ratings for consumer-grade machines.

Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 Review

The Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 is an all-in-one photo printer with refillable ink storage tanks. Along with the typical cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks, it uses grey and photo-black inks; it's compatible with Epson 552 inks. It's a wide-format printer that supports approximately 13" x 19" paper size, and its flatbed scanner supports up to Legal-size paper, yet it lacks an ADF and fax capability.

Connectivity alternatives consist of Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, USB, and Ethernet. You can additionally print straight from an SD card, and there's mobile support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service. This printer uses a unique version of the Epson Smart Panel app, which provides additional functionality for printing images.

Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 Review
Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550 - epson.com

The Epson EcoTank ET-8550 makes an excellent job of both, with an ink line-up that's a suitable compromise for both tasks. It's basically an upsized AA3+/13-inchversion of the cartridge-free A4/88.5-inchET-8500 and wusesthe exact same ink containers,aincluding70ml csubstitutes Taking on likes of Canon's PIXMA G650 'MegaTank' A4/8.5- inch printer, it has likewise reduced running costs y, yet the Epson printers are far more pricey to purchase, so it takes longer to obtain your refund. The

Epson EcoTank ET-8550 is different to dedicated A3+/13x19-inch inkjet photo printers, being much more of a multi-purpose, multi-function device. This all-in-one printer has a pigment-based black ink for crisp black text, plus 5 dye-based inks for photo results: cyan, magenta, yellow, photo black, and grey.

The grey ink not only enhances the range of shades but also enables higher image integrity for black & white printing. That's ok as much of a factor; however, it loses out compared to A3+ printers like the pigment-based Epson SureColor P700 and Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300, and the dye-based Canon PIXMA PRO-200, which use 10 and 8 inks, respectively.

As expert image printers, these offer a significantly larger color space than the ET-8550, along with a wider range of black and grey inks for superior black-and-white printing.

Epson EcoTank ET-8550: attributes

As with other Epson EcoTank printers, a key feature of the ET-8550 is that it uses ink containers rather than cartridges, which are refilled with 70ml containers at a cost of around $ 17.50/£16 each. That compares extremely favorably with printers like the 6-ink, cartridge-based Epson Expression Photo XP-970 A3/11-inch version, which has only 9 ml of ink even in its 'XL' cartridges, at a comparable price of around ₤ 6/$17 each.

Epson claims that the ink price is reduced by around 80 percent overall and that, for photos, it drops from around 40c/40p to about 4c/4p per 6x4-inch print. The other side is that the ET-8500 costs virtually 3 times as much to buy to begin with.

Although 70ml looks and sounds like a lot of ink per container, it's worth remembering that Epson's large-format A3+/13-inch SureColor P700 and A2+/17-inch SureColor P900 printers use larger 5ml and 50ml cartridges. For the latter, there's not much difference between cartridges and bottles. Even so, P900 cartridges cost around $ 4.42/£38 each, so they're much more expensive than replacement ink containers.

One more variable is that the SureColor printers are marketed with low-capacity 'arrangement' cartridges, which only last for a few large-format prints, so you'd need to get an expensive full set of replacement cartridges very quickly. By plain comparison, the ET-8500 impressively includes a set of full-capacity 70ml ink containers, sufficient for publishing around 2,300 6x4-inch image prints.

As a printer that's far better suited to office work than to expert large-format image printing, the ET-8500 features multiple input cassettes for different paper types and sizes, duplex printing, and a large-format 8.5x14-inch scanner for straight scanning and copying.

Everything's brought together by a handy 10.9 cm color touchscreen with an intuitive user interface and, for remote operation using a mobile phone or tablet, there's the 'Epson Smart Panel' app. Connection options include USB, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet, and the printer also features an SD/HC/XC card slot and a PictBridge port.

For publishing on larger-format paper up to A3+/13x17-inch, there's an upright feeder that feeds from the rear of the printer, plus a straight feeder that enables you to print banners and scenic photos up to 2m in size, as well as professional media approximately 1.3 mm thick.

So long as you don't expect to publish top-notch images, you will not be let down by this unit. Text Quality

In our message top-quality printing metric, we evaluated each printer's capacity to print both black-and-white messages and maintain a high level of text resolution from one print to the next. Generally, we found that the Epson EcoTank ET-2800's text printing quality sufficed for most needs.

In our high-quality black-and-white testing, we found that the darkest shade of black was grayer than the blacks produced by other printers. While not as pure black as other printers, the ET-2800 produced messages without many noticeable problems.

Our team occasionally observed a darker tone, and the edges of the text looked a little more rugged when multiplied. Still, the efficiency was much more consistent than with previous generations of EcoTank printers we've checked.

Graphics and Photos

In our evaluation of visual and photo printing quality, we produced examination prints. We examined them for any lack of resolution, edge information, pixelation, streaking, or tarnishing, and monitored color quality. Compared to generating vibrant, high-quality photo prints and sharply detailed business graphics, the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 fell a little short of our expectations.

When testing picture printing at the highest print quality settings, we observed that lighter colors were slightly rinsed, yellows looked a bit tan, and blues looked a bit gray. The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 did similarly to picture printing in our service graphics testing.

Again, we observed lighter shades being rinsed, while darker shades were overly dark, with a basic loss of information. One of the most obvious defects was in the textures, where the finer details were lost.

Despite our optimism for the Epson EcoTank ET-2800, our testing produced prints that ranged from ordinary to below average compared to its peers, exhibiting low-key, undersaturated tones, reduced intensity, and a basic lack of integrity, making it a poor choice for those who require premium graphic and photo printing capabilities.

Running Cost

Where the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 really shines is in its unparalleled, unbelievably low operating costs. Epson's EcoTank line of printers is easily, and by far, the cheapest printers to run long-term on the marketplace today.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 is about as good as it gets for reduced operating costs. It can print 4,500 pages of black-and-white paper for only $14 in ink, while printing 7,500 color pages at almost the same cost —$13.99. That works out to less than 1/100th of a cent for both black-and-white and color prints.

If the astonishingly low operating costs are the focus of your printing needs, and you agree to compromise some image quality, high-quality printing, and speed, then the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 is the very best option on the market today.

Ease of Use

Our ease-of-use statistics evaluated initial printer setup and unboxing, cordless setup and customer support, and the printer's user interface and usability. The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 generally earned an average score, with a well-rounded setup and an individual experience on par with most other printers tested by our team.

Preliminary printer setup and unboxing aren't as difficult with the EcoTank ET-2800. It includes a clear user manual with visuals, and the printer's display also provides step-by-step instructions with visuals throughout the process of loading the ink directly into the printer.

Putting ink into the containers is both mess-free and uncomplicated, and it's a smoother process than with previous EcoTank models. We had almost no concerns with jamming or positioning in the examination prints at the end of the process.

Wireless setup and attaching the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 to a network were also relatively straightforward procedures, as you can expect from most designs and makers on the market these days.

Customer support, the printer application, and the support website are all uncomplicated. We did have to reach out to client support for an ink obstruction, and their assistance had us back in action in no time.

The printer's display screen is fairly tiny, but it can be angled to improve visibility and is also backlit, which boosts its usability. Twelve switches make it simple to navigate the on-display food selections, and the user experience is comparable to that of most printers on the market today. It is neither phenomenal nor inadequate.

The bg 50-sheet rear specialty tray makes printing pro-quality projects easier than ever before—even on cardstock. And with 2-sided printing, a 200-sheet front tray, and a convenient cordless connection, publishing stacks of files is a breeze. Obtain all this in a compact printer that's 30 percent smaller than its predecessor.

Epson is maintaining an approximately five-year design cycle for the entry-level versions of its A3+ printer line-up. The XP-15000 replaces the Artisan 1430, which we assessed in February 2012, and which itself replaced the 2007 Stylus Photo 1410.

Like them, it is made solely for printing and can handle reduced-size paper up to 329 x 483 mm (A3+). Its droplet dimensions and result resolution coincide with the 1430s; however, it uses a new ink collection and differs in a few other ways, as shown in the table below.

Other Post: Canon PIXMA G620 Review

Printer Overview

The XP-15000 is much more portable than its predecessors and significantly lighter, the latter due in part to a few concessions in development to improve high-quality performance. Compared with the 1430, although some functions may be more convenient than their equivalents in the previous design, the overall build and construction of the XP-15000 is less substantial.

Epson has actually made considerable adjustments to many elements of the design. Like the most up-to-date designs in the Workforce and EcoTank arrays, the XP-15000 features a tilting control panel with an LCD display, a powered print tray that deploys automatically, a cassette for simple A4 paper, and a back-feed slot for main loading.

The cassette is located below the print tray and accessed using a drop-down panel. Unfortunately, the tray and self-extending take-up tray aren't as solid as we'd like, and packing paper into the cassette can be tricky. Automating the tray's release and storage has the potential to cause problems over time due to wear and tear. The rear paper assistance is also lightweight and easy to displace.

The cassette has adjustable sliders and significant settings for 10 x 15-centimeter and 13 x 18-centimeter sheets. It will addalsocept documents lonlargeran A4 sispecially 'legal' documents thameasuring.6 x 33 cm fo,r which a pull-out guide is givprovidedhe maximum ccapacityof the cassette is 200 sheets of ordinary A4 paper, 50 sheets of picture paper (all dimensions), or 'legal'-sized ordinary paper, 10 envelopes, or 80 sheets of A4 Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper, which is thinner than routine image paper and used for publishing records with embedded pictures. You can also set it up for printing on envelopes.

Sheets of paper larger than A4 and 'lawful' dimensions must use the back sheet feed, which can accommodate approximately 50 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of photo paper. The optimum dimension, as determined by the User Defined choice in the vehicle driver food selection, is 329 x 1200 mm (~13 x 44 inches), the same as in previous models.

Indeterminate printing is available for many of the conventional documents listed in the chauffeur's food selection, but not for double-sided paper, picture stickers, or transfer paper. A tray for printing on optical discs is situated on the base of the paper cassette.

It matches a specialized slot behind the control board, just above the result tray, which can be difficult to access because there's little space above the cassette top. The control board must be completely lifted, and the disc tray carefully straightened before it will slide into place. Besides that, disc printing hasn't changed from previous models and relies on the same driver settings and Epson's Print CD software.
