HP Scanjet 5590 Review
HP Scanjet 5590 Driver – When you see a scanner with a 50-sheet, duplexing ADF built right into its top cover, as with the HP Scanjet 5590, it is a risk-free wager designed to scan multipage documents for OCR and document management applications, as well as fax and copy. But the 5590 also checks pictures at reasonably top quality and does an admirable job on moves.
The 2,400 optical by 2,400 mechanical pixels each inch (PPI) is the minimum resolution required for sensible slide checks and is much sufficient for business applications. One measure of the actual answer is that at the default 300 PPI for OCR, the automated OCR component managed to read Times New Roman and Arial text as small as 8 points without an error on our tests. That makes the scanner a score of excellent in this category.
This unit also comes with ReadIris Pro 8.0 for those who want to use an OCR program instead of the mechanical component.
The picture scan quality was excellent. Scan speed varied from 7 to 29 secs for the prescan, depending on how much time the scanner had to heat up. Similarly, scanning to Photoshop with the Twain drivers and conserving the file took 7 to 27 secs.

HP Scanjet 5590 Driver – What holds the 5590 to a 3.5 score for pictures is that it can’t electronically remove scrapes and dirt or minimize graininess, although there’s a choice for improving shades in discolored pictures. These more advanced features are typically found in scanners like the Microtek ScanMaker 6100, designed more for photos than workplace scanning.
The openness adapter works reasonably well, but it is awkward to use. You need to remove it from the scanner’s platen when you are not using it. Slide checks offer a tremendous vibrant range for a flatbed scanner, preserving information in both light and dark locations in a slide of a shady tree line versus brilliant skies with white clouds.
The 5590 is slower than document scanners such as the Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-5110EOX]. It offers an average eight ppm score when scanning one side of a web page and four pictures each min (ipm) when checking both sides at 200 by 200 PPI and 16-bit grayscale setting.
Duplex scanning is slower than simplex because, unlike typical duplexing document scanners, the 5590 checks just one side each time. It needs to transform the web page to scan the second side.
Rates on our tests were significantly slower than the claim, at 6.9 ppm for a simplex scan of 25 sheets of paper and 3.6 ipm for a duplex scan. Consisting of the moment to conserve disk in PDF style reduces the speed to 5.9 ppm for simplex and 3.3 ipm for duplex.
Including an OCR step to conserve searchable PDF style takes much longer for the scan itself because the minimal resolution setting for scanning to editable text is 300 by 300 PPI. It took us 19 mins 16 secs to scan both sides of 25 sheets of paper and conserve the file to searchable PDF style.
HP Scanjet 5590 Driver – At the very least, as necessary as the Scanjet 5590’s scan quality is that it is easy to use, with such benefits as scan switches on the front panel, adequately designed software, and simple installation with a high-speed USB 2.0 link. Suppose you need a moderate-duty workplace scanner that can handle pictures well, but the 5590 is on your list.
