Samsung ML-1610 Detail

The Samsung is estimated at 16ppm, while Dell claims 14ppm for its unit. Samsung’s claims transformed bent on be slightly conservative in our tests, and our 5 percent mono document published in simply 2 mins, 57 secs after processing the job for 15 secs – a price of 17ppm.

The Dell took 32 secs much longer, to publish the same document, validating Dell’s claims of 14ppm. Points improved still further for the ML-1610 with our 12-page Standout document, which pressed the accelerate to 18ppm, while processing times dropped to 11 secs. The Dell improved to 15ppm, and its processing time dropped to 14 secs.

Both printers have simply 2MB of onboard RAM, although this didn’t affect efficiency in our video test. A 24-page DTP document from Word was refined in simply 15 secs and published at 17.3ppm for Samsung, and refined in 14 secs and published at 14ppm for Dell. The Samsung accomplished the same outstanding speed in our four-page PDF, although the Dell slowed down slightly to 12ppm. Both printers refined the job in 12 secs.

It would certainly be unjust to anticipate great picture quality from such inexpensive printers, but Dell and Samsung returned bad pictures and battled with basic mono video. Pictures were intelligible but experienced both banding and unsubtle dithering artifacts.

This led to some terrible greyscale ramps – the publish engine plainly has a problem with refined color gradations – and we saw an ugly blend of tipping, banding, and excessively obvious dithering in our challenging picture tests.

Business video experienced comparable problems, with fine print being challenging to read versus a grey history. Both printer drivers consist of the options to darken text or publish the text as black, but this didn’t make the text on grey histories anymore understandable.

Ordinary text quality was perfect, however, and that is truly what these units are designed for. Personalities have crisp sides and, as long as you keep away from complex color letterheads, the ML-1610 is ideal for letters, records, and memos.

Both units share the same sturdy development quality. The doors concealing the printer toner and fuser units have a reassuringly strong feel to them. The paper tray does not have a door enclosing it, simply detachable dirt protection, further streamlining issues. Both our printers became instead warm throughout extended runs, which, combined with a small paper course, meant that some web pages were susceptible to furling.

One location where inkjets hold a side over lasers is sound pollution, and it is reasonable to say that neither the Samsung neither the Dell are peaceful. High-pitched whining and the clunking of the paper-feed system imply that the office particularly may find publishing an interruption.

However, it is absolutely nothing compared with the sound made by bigger workgroup printers, and the extra sound is greater than offset by the benefits in the speed and cost of each web page. A more major drawback to having actually either of these printers on a work desk is the unmistakable whiff of ozone produced throughout lengthy publish jobs – apart from being undesirable.

It is also harmful, so we’d suggest maintaining such units at a sensible range. The cooling vents get on the sides of the unit, so you will need to maintain it in a fairly open-up location despite the small impact you will need to maintain it.
