Epson WorkForce ES-580W Review

The quality of entry-level desktop computer document scanners has recently improved; nearly all of their land ranges from excellent to excellent. The Epson WorkForce ES-580W is outstanding, with one standout feature: one of the most accurate optical personality acknowledgments (OCR) we’ve ever seen.

Various other sheetfed document scanners in this price range also perform better, including the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600, our Editors’ Choice. However, the ES-580W is more significant than appropriate in all respects.

Room for 100 Web pages

Measuring 6.9 by 11.8 by 6.6 inches (HWD) with its trays shut and evaluating 8.2 extra pounds, the ES-580W coincides with dimension and girth as several of Epson’s entry-level and midrange devices, consisting of the DS-530 II and the RapidReceipt RR-600W.

Contending desktop computer document scanners with comparable quantity and speed scores, such as the Fujitsu iX1600 and the Brother ADS-2700W (another Editors’ Choice winner), are also similar in dimension and weight. The scanner takes up much more room with the open trays, so there is lots of space on your work desk.

An appealing feature of the ES-580W is a 100-sheet automated document feeder (ADF) for sending one- and two-sided multipage documents to the scanner’s sensing units. Most scanners in this dimension have 50-sheet ADFs. Like any sheetfed document scanner, the ES-580W checks both sides of each web page simultaneously, conserving you some paper-flipping time.

The Power switch is the just switch on the front of the scanner. All other walk-up functions are handled through the 4.3-inch color touch-screen control board. You can also control the scanner with a PC or mobile phone operating Epson’s ScanSmart software; more are listed below.

Epson prices the ES-580W’s regular duty cycle at 4,000 checks each day. That is average: Fujitsu prices its iX1600 at 6,000 reviews daily, Brother’s relatively durable ADS-2700W is ranked at 3,000 bills daily, and the beefier ADS-3600W can do 5,000 checks daily. All these scores much exceed what most small offices need.

Lots of Link Options

The well-connected ES-580W supports USB 3.0 for a fast, dedicated solitary computer system link and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac for several simultaneous connections to PCs and mobile devices. It will also scan straight to a USB thumb drive or various other storage spaces.

If you need Ethernet networking, inspect the Brother ADS-2700W, which costs the same as the ES-580W and has all the connectivity options anybody could request. Epson offers a network user interface unit for $350, but spending a lot to update the ES-580W does not make sense when there are various other $400 scanners with Ethernet currently integrated.

Epson’s active ScanSmart scanner user interface software will run on Windows or macOS, and the ScanSmart application is available for Android and iOS. ScanSmart is a modular application that performs several document management jobs, such as tactical file calling and archiving based on day and time, document content, and other specifications.

You can export checked information to many popular efficiency applications or scan straight into those applications using TWAIN drivers. If you need specific scanning functions, include plug-ins such as the ScanSmart Bookkeeping Version component ($100), which gleans financial information from invoices and similar documents.

The software bundle for the ES-580W also consists of Presto! BizCard is a business card scanning and archiving program. All these programs and drivers can be downloaded and installed from Epson’s website; there is no CD in the package.
