Canon PIXMA MX340 Scanner Driver – At simply over £80, the Pixma MX340 is a fully-featured four-in-one MFP with print, scan, copy and fax abilities, as well as easy-to-configure 802.11b/g wireless networking. It has a moderate 100 web-page paper tray and a 30-page Automated Document Feeder (ADF) to easily earn multi-page faxes and duplicates.

To consist of all these features at this price, Canon has made a couple of concessions – there is no sd card reader for beginners. Unlike most Pixma ranges, the MX340 does not use individual ink cartridges.

Instead, a pigment-based black cartridge is used to produce sharp, quick-drying mono text, plus a tri-color cartridge, which includes dye-based cyan, magenta, and yellow ink. Both these have incorporated print goings.

There is no dye-based black, so black locations in picture prints are made by combining the three colored inks. Using a consolidated color cartridge also means changing the cartridge if one ink goes out before the others.

Canon PIXMA MX340 Scanner Driver – The MX340’s print costs, although expensive, aren’t prohibitively high if you use Canon’s high yield PC-512 and CL-513 cartridges – 8.7p each web page of mixed color and mono printing. A mono web page is a worrying 3.6p, however. These costs are too expensive to earn the MX340 a great choice if you print daily, but they’re appropriate for regular use.

Mono’s text was as sharp as we’ve come to anticipate from Canon. Still, we found that color documents on ordinary 80gsm copy machine paper were published with too little ink, creating damp waves in locations full of solid color.

Thankfully, they didn’t smudge and dried out efficiently when laid level. Picture quality was remarkably excellent for a printer that uses compound blacks – dark locations were a bit pale in contrast to dye-based black for picture printing.

Many thanks to Canon’s use of the ISO/IEC 24734 standard, print rates are almost exactly as advertised. Standard quality text arose at a sensible 6.9ppm, but color documents were published gradually at 1.7ppm.

The 1,200×2,400dpi Contact Picture Sensing unit (CIS) scanner makes an undesirable whining sound when running but creates accurately colored checks and clear photocopies.

Canon’s ScanGear user interface provides lots of advanced options for tweaking your checks and can be set up to either shut or remain open after each scan, which especially invites you if you want to scan a set of documents or pictures. You can also control whether your sneak peek image is retained between checks.

Canon PIXMA MX340 Scanner Driver – If you are most likely to print regularly, you will eventually conserve money and improve print rates and quality by purchasing a more expensive device, such as Canon’s non-fax MP640. However, the MX340’s mix of quality and features are great if you need a printer compared to can do everything, but seldom.
