Brother MFC-9970CDW Review

Brother MFC-9970CDW Driver – This printer’s most obvious distinctions from those lower down the range are its 130mm touchscreen and its 20-button quick-dial fax pad. In between them, these two elements take up two-thirds of the machine’s control board, and the touchscreen is delicate and favorable to the touch.

Large, easy-to-read symbols and properly designed menus make it easy to access features such as secure print and direct print from the front panel USB outlet. The other 3rd comprises a number pad, illuminated setting switches, and others to begin and quit jobs.

The A4 scanner, complete with a 50-sheet Automated Document Feeder (ADF), has a fold-shut paper feed and a full-duplex scanner head to copy any mix of solitary and double-sided web pages.

Brother MFC-9970CDW Driver – Although the machine is intended for busy workplace atmospheres, the main paper tray can still take 250 sheets. There is a pull-down, 50-sheet multi-purpose tray equipped as standard, and a 2nd, the 250-sheet tray is available as a choice, but it still appears a bit under-specced.

As well as USB and 10/100 Ethernet, the MFC-9970CDW supports wireless link and automated configuration through systems such as Buffalo Technologies’ AOSS (AirStation One-Touch Secure System).

Driver for Windows and OS X are provided, and Linux support is also available from the Brother website. A complete copy of Nuance PaperPort 12 is offered to Windows users.

The four printer toner cartridges are provided pre-installed; however, you need to remove plastic packing items and tapes before operating the machine. Different drums, a moving belt, and a waste printer toner unit are separate consumables.

The main point you pay extra for in a printer is speed, and the MFC-9970CDW is ranked at 28ppm in black and color. While we can verify it is as fast printing black web pages as its printing color, we could not obtain anywhere close to the defined speed.

Our five-page black text print finished in 27s, giving a rate of 11.1ppm, and this coincided as when printing with printer toner conserve transformed on, the nearest this machine reaches a prepared setting.

It is also precisely the same speed we received from our five-page black text and color video document, so complete notes for uniformity. Enhancing the web page matter to 20 pages also improved the speed to 20ppm, as it finished in exactly 1 min. This is still a way except for the heading rate, however.

Brother MFC-9970CDW Driver – Suppose we put this slower speed to that most printer manufacturers disregard the document processing time before printing starts. In that case, it still does not represent how the buddy MFC-9465CDN, ranked at 24ppm, finished the five-page text print in the 20s, a rate of 15ppm and over 35 percent much faster compared to the MFC-9970CDW. We ran the test 3 times, obtaining 27s for each run.

Duplex print is standard on this machine, and the 20-page document published duplex on ten sheets produced a highly creditable speed of 12.8 sides each min. Also better, it took just 8 secs more for a 20-page duplex copy from the ADF. The solitary pass duplex scanner is big considering this reduced copy time.

We expected a comparable print quality with a similar engine to the various other Brother color printer and multifunctions, and that is what we saw. Black text is clean and well-formed, and printer toner conserve setting text, while significantly fainter, is still acceptable for internal documents.

The colors are bright and robust. However, eco-friendlies and blues tend to be darker than the initial colors, making black overprint hard to read.

A color copy is pretty shut to the initial; however, appearances are fuzzier. Color performance on pictures is more all-natural than we often see from lasers; however, different color tones can show band.

As well as the low-yield and standard-yield consumables available to the lower models in this range, the MFC-9970CDW can use the high-yield, 6,000-page printer toner cartridges to give a reduced cost to each web page. There are still four various consumables, but thankfully the moving belt and waste printer toner unit have yields of 50,000 web pages each, so they will not need a lot of upkeep.

Functioning through the maths gives an expense for each ISO black web page of 2.8p and a fee for each ISO color web page of 10.7p. The black web page cost is an excellent 0.5p less expensive than most other color laser multifunctions we’ve evaluated recently. The color web page cost is better to 2p, much less than from those same devices.
