HP Officejet Pro 8620 Review
Apart from paper capacity, however, it provides the same outstanding list of the multifunction printer (MFP) features as the HP 8630 at a listing price that is $100 lower; production is our Editors’ Choice for mini and small workplaces with light-to-moderate printing needs and office with moderate-to-heavy-duty needs.
Such as the HP 8630, the 8620 offers almost any feature you could want in an MFP. It can print, scan, and fax, consisting of over a network, and it can work as a standalone photocopier, fax machine, and e-mail sender. It can also scan to and print from a USB memory key.
The MFP supports mobile printing as well. Connect it straight to a network by either Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and you can print to it through a Wi-Fi access point on your network from iOS, Android, or BlackBerry devices. Presuming the network is connected to the Internet, you can also print through the shadow and take benefit of HP’s Internet applications.

If you do not connect it to a network, or there is no access point on your network, you can still connect straight using the printer’s Wireless Direct—HP’s exclusive equivalent to Wi-Fi Direct—to print from a mobile phone or tablet computer.
Still another choice for connecting to the printer is near-field interaction (NFC), although the support is limited enough that you might not obtain a lot of use from the feature. As with the HP 8630, the 8620 supports NFC Touch-to-Print, a fairly new standard and not very extensive. HP says that the just mobile phone the printer will deal with at this writing is the HP ElitePad 900.
That said, the feature may become better over the printer’s lifetime. NFC Touch-to-Print is specified as a component of the standard from the Mopria Partnership, a team that consists of HP, Canon, Samsung, Epson, and Xerox, to name a few. If your present mobile phone or tablet computer does not support the standard, your next update might.
The 8620’s paper handling is a little bit of a variety. Because it is limited to a solitary 250-sheet tray without a manual feed, switching to various paper kinds could become an irritating hassle if you have to do it very often.
However, that will not be a problem in most workplaces, and the paper handling is excellent. Also, if you obtain the 8620 and decide you need the 2nd tray, you can include it as a choice ($79.99 direct), effectively turning the 8620 right into the HP 8630 for a reduced total cost. (However, you will not obtain the OCR program or extra ink that come with the HP 8630.)
The 8620 offers a print duplexer (for printing on both sides of a web page). Scanning offers both a legal-size flatbed and a 50-page automated document feeder (ADF) that can duplex as well.
Having the ability to both print and scan in duplex allows you to scan, fax and e-mail both simplex (one-sided) and duplex documents easily, as well as copy from both single- and double-sided originals for your choice of single- or double-sided duplicates.
It also helps a great deal that the 4.3-inch front-panel colour display offers a properly designed menu system that makes it easy to change setups and give commands.
