Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Review
While it can easily print documents, the PIXMA Pro-100 is designed with professional digital photographers in mind. We’ve obtained our practical one and have put it through the speeds to see how it performs when put to the test. From design and configuration to print efficiency and price, we cover everything.
Design: A spectacular behemoth of a printer
It is challenging to discuss the design of the PIXMA Pro-100 without first mentioning the dimension of this point. The PIXMA Pro-100 evaluates a back-breaking 43.2 extra pounds and measures at 15.2 x 27.2 x 8.5 inches. While that might not be so great when it needs to be removed, the development quality of the PIXMA Pro-100 fallen leaves little doubt about the resilience and ruggedness.
The PIXMA Pro-100 features an extremely settled design and an extremely cuboid design, apart from the spherical sides on the four edges of the printer. When not used, the various paper owners and trays fold and well lock in position to produce a lot of cleanser appearance. The latching systems for the paper tray and print owner use decisive contact factors, giving the printer a cost feel as it is opened up and shut before and after use.
There are just three devices: the power switch, a paper feed switch, and a dedicated WPS switch for the instant wireless link. As with various other Canon picture printers, it would’ve been nice to see a display of some type for viewing ink degrees and browsing the food selection, but Canon appears to have reserved that for its all-in-one printers and a lot more expensive ImagePROGRAF Pro-1000 printer.
Configuration: A little bit of work, but well worth it in completion
As a professional inkjet picture printer, the PIXMA Pro-100 is a wind to set up—Canon provides all the requirements to obtain off the ground inside the package. After removing the printer, cable televisions, ink, printhead, discs, handbooks, and devices from the box, the first step is—wait for it—to connect it in.

From there, the printhead access cover needs to be raised so the printhead and ink can be installed. We underwent the process of putting the printhead and ink cartridges in position in the issue of 90 secs or so—a process that was aided by ink cartridge areas that illuminated green when the cartridge was installed correctly and red when improperly installed.
After the ink is installed, the PIXMA Pro-100 undergoes its ink initiation process, which takes a couple of mins. While it made its point, we made an effort to establish the proper driver and the software.
Instead, compared to using the discs consisted of in package. However, we opted to download the various driver and software straight from Canon’s PIXMA Pro-100 downloads web page because we didn’t have access to a CD.
Since it is a significant printer meant for experts, Canon offers a couple of extra plug-ins and programs to fine-tune nearly every piece of information in the printing process. For our tests, we installed the Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom plug-in to print our pictures straight from Lightroom. The various software took in between 8 to 10 mins to install between locating the programs we needed and undergoing the actual installation process.
Once we had the driver and software installed, we connected our computer system to the printer via a USB adapter. Tester set up the wireless link using the incorporated WPS switch but eventually decided to use a hardwired connection for our testing since we were printing large pictures at high resolutions. Inside Lightroom, we used the Canon Print Workshop plug-in to print full-resolution images straight from Adobe Lightroom, a procedure we dive right into a bit more in the following two areas.
